ABOUT THE BIG ENGINEERING WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK


A week of exciting immersive talks, learning sessions and design activities carefully curated to give current university students and recent graduates invaluable experience and an insight into the world of engineering for the built environment.


The programme for 2021 was designed to prepare students and recent graduates for an exciting career in innovating for a sustainable world. It delivered tangible learning that equipped students with useful knowledge to become innovators. It also covered sustainable architectural and engineering design including the transition to net-zero, sustainable water supply and product design.

In the format of LIVE talks and exceptional content, the programme featured the brilliant contributions and support of exceptional Engineers, Architects, Technologists, Innovators from world leading organisations.


The student & graduate participants were required to engage in break out sessions and participate in feedback sessions. Upon delivering a short report on the week, a certificate of participation was issued.


The week featured speakers from global leading companies, organisations and institutions such as ARUP, Royal Academy of Engineering, Baler Hughes, P+ Studios, RS Components, Design Spark, The Washing Machine Project,  Fidelity International, Severn Trent  and more.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants were current university students or in higher education and on an Engineering, Technology or Architecture related programme.
  • Applications were open to all parts of the world but applicants needed to have reasonable proficiency of English language- to get the most out of the work experience week.
  • Applicants had to commit to the entire week.
  • Applicants had to be 18 and over. 
  • Applicants had to be passionate about shaping a better world.

The Universal Language of Engineering & Technology

Over the last 3 years, the BIG Engineering work Experience week has benefited students from nearly 30 countries. The students have had the opportunity to experience first hand the 'Universal Language' of Engineering and Technology. They have since gone on to work on really interesting projects as part of their degrees and are in roles in Industry- with a significant number of them already winning awards!
